Goals of the TAG Rugby Tackle Safety Programme • To promote physical activity amongst boys and girls in schools in South Africa. This is seen as a means to decrease the problem of obesity, drugs and crime in schools and communities in the Western Cape and ultimately South Africa.
• Re-introduce sport in schools where there are a lack of sports facilities as TAG Rugby™ can be played on any surface. • To promote the United Nations, SARU TAG Rugby™ Tackle Safety Message with the help of the Departments of Education, Sport and Recreation and Safety and Security.
• Provides social inclusion for youngsters - learning to respect each other.
• Provides a constructive and structured way to engage with youth on crime and drugs through the TAG Rugby™ Tackle Safety Programme. Programme will need the support of SAPS during working hours in this area.
• Using local SAPS members in the area develops respect for the uniform and profession.
• Provide talented young children with exit routes into local clubs, providing a chance to continue with a positive life style.
• Fewer Victims by getting the youth involved in sport.
• Involve the communities so they can see the benefits physical activity is having on their children and crime in their communities.
